Ciro Manna on cover of AXE magazine

June 1, 2015, 12:46 p.m.

DV Mark artist Ciro Manna is interviewed in the May issue of Italy's AXE magazine, discussing his new CD "XY", his gear and future projects.

Here are some excerpts from the interview, translated from Italian:
AXE: Even the Steely Dan did not so much time from one CD to another.
CM: Well, I must say that it's been a little while since I started working on it to now that it's finally finished!
The truth is that at the beginning there were all my intentions to have it ready by 2012 but then I was (thankfully) fully swallowed by work, above all in television orchestra, together with private things like marriage, becoming dad and so on... moved me away from my productions. Then, after three years I was able to get back and finalize the disc in three months, thanks also to the opportunity to open the European tour of Andy Timmons in March (thans to Riccardo Cappelli and Marco De Virgiliis) taking advantage to promote the new album right away in foreign countries testing how a "new" public audience valued my music... it went very well selling more than 40 copies for concert. I'd like to thank you so much also Andy who is a great person, as well as a stellar musician, because he never missed the opportunity to spend good words about my music ... very helpful when you stay in front of an audience that is listening you for the first time.

AXE: Let's go into detail, how you got the remarkable sounds of guitar?
CM: I recorded the 95% of the album with the Paul Reed Smith 305 white, which I'm using from some years .. it features two PRS single coil pickups and a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails mini humbucker bridge. For acoustic session I used the Martin 00028 Eric Clapton signature. I used the Bb preamp and the Xotic AC Boster Xotic. First tracks was recorded in 2011/2012 through Fender Deville, and for the next tracks I've used the Little 40 by DV Mark, the brand I endorsed from about four years.
AXE: How is your approach to the solos?
CM: I always take care of that at the end, after I'm totally convinced of the themes, structure and arrangement. Usually I prefer to improvise, recording some tracks and then selecting the best, but sometime I kept almost the full take and sometime I take care of each single phrases, that's a good opportunity to study!
